What are Meta Tags?

Meta Tags are a part of HTML. The abbreviation HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language is the primary language on the internet. Meat Tags are place in the head section of a web page and their datum is set in place only for search engines purpose.

To Name a Few:

Title Tag

This Meta Tag is on the top let of most browsers. This very important title tag is what first attracts search engines to a web page.

Description Tag

This Meta Tag is what you see under the title description when you land on a search page results. This Meta Tag is a brief description of the web page in question. This tag is still somewhat important but as some search engines, algorithm changes it looses credibility for the simple reason the webmaster abuse them.

Alternate Tags

Search engine does not see images, therefore, this Meta Tag although not necessary it does tell search engines what is the image all about. This tag is only visible to the surfer if one uses internet explorer.

Keyword Tags

This Meta Tag says it clearly. This keyword tag is to set relevant keywords to attract search engines but again this tag has lost lot of credibility over the years and now only attracts a few search engines. This tag is not visible to the surfer.

Over the years since the inception of the internet, these Meta Tags have been abused and abused to trick search engines. Therefore, search engines owners and technicians had to make changes to their algorithm to diminish the credibility of Meta Tags. Hence, the move towards relevant text has never been so important to the ranking position of a website.

Nevertheless, Meta Tags should always be set until they become obsolete, if it ever happens.
